Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka react to Newcastle star Joe Willock’s update

Joe Willock shared an update on his life via social media since Newcastle United beat Liverpool to lift the Carabao Cup at Wembley, and got an update from Man City and Arsenal stars.

While the 25-year-old has not featured so prominently for the Magpies, such as Liverpool-linked striker Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes or Joelinton, he has enjoyed the success just as much.

Willock has just nine Premier League starts to his name during the 2024/25 campaign so far, having only made nine total league appearances last term, but it has become difficult for the midfielder to break into the team.

With no international duty for the former Arsenal man, the next two weeks will likely just be a chance for him to re-energise and refocus, hoping for a chance to prove himself to Eddie Howe in the closing stages of the season.

Taking to Instagram [20 March], Willock shared a series of images of holidays, celebrating the EFL Cup victory and with his teammate William Osula.

Guimaraes commented with two heart-eye emojis, while Man City’s Phil Foden, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and AS Roma star Tammy Abraham all liked the post.

Eddie Howe’s future only downside to Newcastle success

Football Insider verdict

The Magpies have started what looks to be an incredibly exciting era at St James’ Park, breaking a 70-year curse to lift a piece of silverware, and beat one of the best teams in the world in the process.

If the team can qualify for the Champions League as well, that will truly get the ball rolling ahead of the summer transfer window, leaving Isak with no reason to leave Newcastle.

The Magpies face tough competition for a top-four finish.

With Chelsea, Man City, Brighton, Fulham and Aston Villa all fighting for the top-four spots, it is not a certainty at St James’ Park right now, but Howe can make it exactly that if current trends continue.

The only problem with Newcastle succeeding so much is that England could come for Howe’s signature once Thomas Tuchel’s time in charge is over.

He was never given an opportunity to represent his country, having retired from injuries at the age of 29, but managing the Three Lions would give him that chance back in a new career.
