Phil Foden complaints: ‘Dig at Pep Guardiola’ on cards after Man City v Brugge

Man City midfielder Phil Foden might “have a dig at Pep Guardiola” after his positional complaints in the week, according to Danny Mills.

Foden made headlines in the week when speaking about Euro 2024, and his struggles with being played out on the left-wing by Gareth Southgate [MEN].

Despite appearing regularly there for his club, Foden failed to have an impact for England, failing to score or assist in their run to the final, before losing to Spain.

Last years Premier League player of the season started the season slowly after returning from international duty, but has found his form since the Christmas break, although he might not be happy with his manager following the key Champions League clash with Club Brugge.

Former City defender, Mills, spoke on Sky Sports Soccer Special, saying (8.13pm): “He complained this week about having to play out on the left-hand side for England. Funnily enough he finds himself out on the left-hand side tonight.

“I’m not sure if he’s gonna have a dig at Pep Guardiola after the game for that.”

Man City rely on star man Foden form to rescue awful season

Football Insider Verdict

Foden is not the only one to start the season poorly, as Man City as a whole have been abysmal this season.

A 3-1 win against Chelsea, which Foden scored in, is hopefully a turning point for the defending Premier League champions.

However, another league title this season looks out of reach, as City sit 12 points behind league-leaders, Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.

Foden was untouchable last season, scoring 19 league goals and assisting eight, as City edged out Arsenal by two points to win their fourth league title in a row.

If City are to make a success of this season, their best bet is likely in the Champions League, but they will have to beat Club Brugge to qualify as they sit 25th in the league stage, one place behind qualification.

There have already been question marks over Guardiola’s team selection, as the Spaniard has left out Rico Lewis in favour of Matheus Nunes at right-back.

The decision may have long-term consequences, as Rico Lewis could follow his former teammate Kyle Walker out of the club.

The pressure is on Foden and Guardiola after Brugge hit them immediately before the break for a 1-0 lead at the Etihad and City qualification hanging by a thread.
