Phil Foden could sensationally quit Man City within weeks – pundit

Phil Foden could sensationally quit Man City this summer in search of more game time.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie said Foden is in danger of being left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad if his game time continues to be limited.

The 23-year-old’s current contract at the Etihad runs until 2027 but he has fallen down the pecking order throughout the last season and saw his game time decrease as the season progressed.

Foden made 32 Premier League appearances in the 2022-23 campaign and was in the starting lineup for 22 of those outings.

The winger has been heavily utilised by Southgate for England and has made 22 appearances since his debut back in 2020.

Foden featured in three out of four of the national team’s European Qualifiers which saw them beat Italy, Ukraine, Malta and North Macedonia.

McAvennie is worried if Foden’s game time for City continues to decrease it could impact his England career.

I think there is a danger of people getting left out for England,” he told Football Insider.

Foden has got to play more games in my opinion.

Jack Grealish came in and took over. It used to be Foden out there and now it is Grealish. I know he will get his game time but somebody like Foden wants to play every week so that is going to be an issue.

I know Foden loves the club but you are not going to stay there if you are not getting a game all the time.
