Phil Foden: Fans all say the same thing after Wayne Rooney’s claim
Man City fans put rivalry aside and agree with Man United legend Wayne Rooney’s assessment that Phil Foden is England’s best player.
Interim manager Lee Carsley called up the 24-year-old for England’s UEFA Nations League games against Greece and Finland in the season’s second international break.
It’s been a stop-start season for Foden, playing just 167 Premier League minutes for the reigning champions without scoring or assisting in their first seven games.
The left-winger was back to his best in City’s comprehensive 4-0 Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava, however, scoring their second and providing an assist for fellow academy graduate James McAtee.
Rooney, 38, knows a thing or two about delivering for his country having scored 53 goals in 120 appearances for England.
He’s now making waves as Plymouth Argyle manager, taking them up to 14th with an impressive 2-1 win over promotion-chasing Blackburn Rovers on Saturday (October 5).
Phil Foden gets Wayne Rooney seal of approval
When asked about who he believes England’s best player is, he snubbed the likes of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham for Phil Foden, Rooney told TalkSPORT, “Phil Foden, for me.
“I know he hasn’t played that much this season for Man City but Phil Foden at his best is the best player England have got.
“Cole Palmer has been sensational since going to Chelsea and you see everything Jude Bellingham is doing at Real Madrid. But for me Phil Foden is the one, I really enjoy watching him.”
