Phil Foden sends message to fans after Man City drama

Phil Foden took to social media to send a message to the fans after Man City secured a place in the Champions League play-off round.

The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Pep Guardiola’s side came from behind to beat Club Brugge 3-1 in their dramatic last game of the new-look league phase.

It capped a turnaround for the team as well as Foden personally following a rocky Champions League group stage in which the City player has struggled to hit the heights of previous seasons and borne the brunt of frustration from supporters.

Brugge opened the scoring in the 45th minute thanks to a goal from defensive midfielder Raphael Onyedika who slotted home after Ferran Jutgla got the better of Matheus Nunes.

City made a lightning-quick start the the second half, restoring parity through Mateo Kovacic before a Joel Ordonez own-goal gave them the lead.

Savinho rounded off the scoring in the 77th minute, latching on to John Stones’ looping ball and just about earning a place in the play-offs.

The winger has started to find some form after struggling in the first half of the season, starting 22 of his 28 games across all competitions, scoring ten goals, and providing four assists in 2031 minutes of action.

Foden took to Instagram after the game to celebrate the fact they made it to the playoffs, saying: “Secured our spot in the playoffs.”

Guardiola’s side will face either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in their two-legged play-off, with a place in the last 16 in the offering.

City will return to domestic affairs on Sunday (February 2), however, as they make the trip to North London to face Arsenal.
