Phil Foden shares surprise Man City image after grim update

Man City star Phil Foden has surprisingly taken to social media to post an image of himself as a mascot with former player Martin Petrov.

A die-hard Man City fan, Foden, 24, has been at the club since the age of four, predating the history-making takeover and subsequent eight Premier League titles, among other major silverware.

After earning the Premier League Player of the Season award following City’s title-winning 2023-24 campaign, the playmaker has struggled to replicate the form that won him the award.

Foden made just his fifth Premier League start of the season in their humbling 4-0 home defeat to Tottenham on Saturday (November 23).

Still without a league goal this season, the England international struggled to make an impact once again with more grim statistics, managing just 22 completed passes, creating no chances, and missing one big chance.

Foden has just one Premier League goal contribution so far, an assist for John Stones’ controversial winner in their 2-1 victory over Wolves.

Petrov, now 45, spent three years at Man City, scoring 12 goals in 68 appearances across all competitions before joining Bolton in 2010.

Foden and the Bulgarian aren’t too dissimilar in terms of playing style, with the Man City ace taking to Instagram to share an image of himself standing proudly with Petrov all the way back in 2007.

Both Foden and manager Pep Guardiola are in unknown waters, having just lost their fifth consecutive game for the first time in their professional careers.

The playmaker has found some solace in the Champions League, scoring three goals and providing one assist in four appearances as City prepare for a visit from Feyenoord on Tuesday (November 26).
