Philippe Clement could quit Rangers after boardroom twist – fans react

Philippe Clement has been tipped to quit Rangers this summer after receiving no backing from the board in the transfer window.

Rangers fans are insisting the boss could walk away following the Old Firm clash on 1 September out of frustration given the situation at Ibrox.

Heading into the final 24 hours of the transfer window, the club have signed six new players on permanent deals, the boss admitted not all of them are first-team ready.

Connor Barron, Robin Propper and Jefte have been thrown straight into the side, but Clinton Nsiala and Hamza Igamane need time before they can be regular starters, while Liam Kelly is a backup option for Jack Butland.

Meanwhile, eight players have left the club.

There is a recognition at Ibrox that further incoming deals are needed if they want to mount a serious challenge for silverware.

However, with the window quickly drawing to a close, it looks unlikely that many more signings will arrive before the deadline.

As a result, fans are insisting Clement will not be happy with his backing from the board.

Rangers fans fear Philippe Clement could quit after transfer twist

Clement oversaw a victory in the Scottish League Cup last year and led the team to a surprise title challenge before a late collapse last season – leading to calls to improve his squad and mount a new challenge.

The gap to Celtic also appears to have grown despite the Hoops enduring their own frustrating transfer window given the comparative level of the squads.

Throughout the summer, frustrations at the direction the club appears to be headed in have continued to grow, with comparisons drawn to last summer’s transfer window.

Fans have now taken to social media to express their anger at the board.
