Philippe Clement makes approach to seal first new signing as Norwich City manager

Norwich City are looking to bolster Philippe Clement’s squad in January, as the Belgian attempts to pull the Canaries out of the relegation zone.

Clement was appointed as Norwich’s head coach last week, with the 51-year-old available after he was sacked by Rangers in February.

The Belgian has got off to a difficult start, with his side losing heavily to Birmingham City before drawing with Oxford United on Tuesday.

Liam Manning was determined to turn around Norwich’s form, despite the Englishman having led the Canaries to just two wins from their opening 15 Championship fixtures.

But after a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City at Carrow Road earlier in the month, Norwich relieved Manning of his duties.

Norwich City make Andre Luiz enquiry

Norwich are interested in a move for Rio Ave winger Andre Luiz, who has enjoyed a strong start to his time in Portugal since making the switch from Flamengo last season.

The 23-year-old signed for Estrela Amadora, but would move to Rio Ave just six months later after impressing in Liga Portugal.

This season, the winger has already scored four goals and provided four assists in just 11 league fixtures, with teams around Europe paying attention.

A Bola reported on Wednesday that Norwich are among them, with Sunderland, Brentford, Stoke City and Portsmouth, as well as the Canaries, all making inquiries.

Playing predominantly on the right, Andre Luiz has found a knack for surging into the box, often getting on the end of crosses to the back post.

The winger is a tricky dribbler with a real eye for a pass, and could be exactly the type of signing to bolster Norwich’s chances of turning their season around.

However, any potential deal will be difficult to pull off, with A Bola reporting that Rio Ave have set a £13million price tag on the 23-year-old.

Andre Luiz was coached by David Luiz

After leaving Arsenal in 2021, David Luiz returned to Brazil with Flamengo, spending five years in Rio de Janeiro.

The Brazilian came across plenty of young players during his time at the club, with Andre Luiz being one of the players who benefited from the defender’s experience.

“The lessons with David Luiz and with Pascoal helped me a lot,” said the forward in an October interview with OJogo.

“I learned a lot, and even though I wasn’t playing, I also learned a lot of things at Flamengo alongside the best players in Brazil, like Arrascaeta, Everton Ribeiro, or Gabigol.”

Luiz has also since left Flamengo, joining Fortaleza in January before signing with Cypriot First Division club Pafos in August.
