Philippe Clement ‘one defeat away from Rangers sack’  – sources

Rangers boss Philippe Clement is just one defeat away from being put under real pressure by the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Clement knows “he’s not sitting pretty just yet” and “one more defeat to a rival like Celtic” could prove terminal to his job prospects.

John Bennett’s resignation due to health issues could lead to complications for Clement as a change in hierarchy could lead to different ideas being implemented.

New faces in charge of the club might not deem the 50-year-old to be the right man to lead the Light Blues.

Clement has been under “intense pressure” since losing the first Old Firm derby of the season.

Neither fans nor the Rangers chiefs will accept the club continually finding themselves playing second fiddle to Celtic, and there is already a five-point gap between them in the league table.

Rangers want to see improvements from Philippe Clement

The Gers only managed to pick up a 1-0 win against Dundee United last weekend, and Clement was bullish after the game about his expectations.

The Rangers boss claimed that there will be an upturn in performances when the club returns to Ibrox Stadium this weekend, which will put pressure on those games.

An Old Firm manager is always only one defeat away from being under real pressure due to the intensity of the job and the expectations involved.

Rangers

Rangers failed to qualify for the Champions League at the start of the season and have made an underwhelming start to their Scottish Premiership campaign.

They currently sit in third place and will be back in action on Saturday (21 September) against Dundee in the League Cup.
