Philippe Clement sack latest: Managers ‘reject Rangers job’
Rangers’ ongoing turmoil behind the scenes has put top managers off of taking over from Philippe Clement should the club opt to sack him.
This is according to former Man United chief scout and Sir Alex Ferguson number two Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that there are too many unanswered questions at Ibrox.
Rangers’ financial position is tricky, while they are without a permanent chairman following John Bennett’s decision to step down due to health reasons.
Brown went on to insist that a number of the first-team players are “past their best” and will soon need replacing in the transfer market.
However, it will not be enough to simply replace the players, but they must improve upon them as well, and he claimed it would take four signings just for the club to stand still.
On top of that, the weight of expectation at Ibrox can be heavy on the shoulders, with the fans demanding a title challenge and to compete for trophies at a minimum every season.
With pressure growing on Clement’s position after an inconsistent start to the season, with his side sitting third in the SPFL amid many difficulties, they may find it hard to find a replacement.
Rangers could struggle to replace Philippe Clement after new sack twist
Brown previously told Football Insider that Steven Gerrard is open to a return to Ibrox as he continues to struggle in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq.
However, the former scout and coach, who has worked closely with top managers throughout his career including Ferguson, Ron Atkinson and David Moyes, insisted that it is not the same job as when Gerrard first arrived.
“I think a lot of top managers will be put off of the job and will reject it,” he told Football Insider.
“That’s not to say nobody would take it, but people won’t be hammering on the door for it.
“There’s a lot of ongoing issues behind the scenes, financially and with the running of the club.
“Some of their better players in the past seem to be past their best now.
“They’ve seen players like Borna Barisic leave and not be adequately replaced, but then you’ve got players like Tavernier who have declined.
“These players will need replacing, but there’s not a lot of money to do that.
“Whoever goes in will have four players to replace even to stand still, let alone move forward.
“It’s not the job it was when Steven Gerrard took over, for example, when there were some quality players who were just about hitting their best level.

“It’s not an easy job at all.
“There’s the expectation there as well, you’ve got to win the league and if you don’t you have to get top two, but even that might not be good enough.”
