Phillipe Clement: Keith Wyness drops scathing Rangers sack verdict- ‘I’m afraid’

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has told Rangers fans to “suck it up and get behind” under-pressure boss Philippe Clement.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the “mentality” must change at Ibrox with the Gers no longer able to compete with Celtic.

Some Rangers fans called for Clement to be sacked after the 3-0 away loss against their Old Firm rivals earlier this month (1 September).

The Belgian was handed a new contract with the Gers last month which runs until the summer of 2028.

He is approaching the first anniversary of his Ibrox appointment after succeeding Michael Beale in October 2023.

Rangers must ‘suck it up and get behind’ Clement, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’m afraid Rangers and the fans have got to stop with this mentality.

“Just because you lose to Celtic, that can’t be the main reason for a manager being sacked.

“Rangers have got a big enough problem finishing second in the Scottish Premiership.

“Clement has got other issues. Changing manager isn’t going to help, that’s for sure.

“I think Rangers fans have got to suck it up and get behind the manager and the team.

“They can still salvage something from this season, as well as get a real rebuild underway.”
