Phillips claims Pereira can dazzle in a Leeds shirt next season after agent reveal

Kevin Phillips claims West Brom attacker Matheus Pereira could be an ideal Leeds United signing.

The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes the Brazilian possesses all of the characteristics required to slot in seamlessly at Elland Road.

French news outlet Foot Mercato reported earlier in May that Pereira’s agent, Jolden Vergette, had been in contact with Leeds following West Brom’s relegation to the Championship after a brief stint back in the Premier League.

“I think it would suit their style,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“Leeds are an exciting, free-flowing team, you can express yourself in that side.

“We’ve seen that with players like Raphinha and Jack Harrison this year, that they can just go and play with freedom, but you have to be prepared to work your socks off and that’s something Pereira would have to take to another level.

“But it’s no surprise that a player like that, of that mould and ilk, is being linked with Leeds.”

Pereira scored 11 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season, but he was unable to prevent West Brom from suffering an instant relegation back to the Championship.

No other player at the club struck more than five times in the league while the 25-year-old also registered a club-high six assists.

His contract at the West Midlands club expires in June 2024.
