Phillips: Kane has 'made his mind up' to quit Tottenham and Pochettino won't change his mind
Reappointing Mauricio Pochettino as manager will not convince Harry Kane to stay at Tottenham this summer.
That’s according to former England striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider on Kane’s future and the prospect of Pochettino pitching up back in N17 to replace Jose Mourinho.
The current PSG head coach, who spent five years in charge of Spurs, has been contacted over a sensational return but they are set to end in failure after the latest talks.
Kane’s future is also up in the air, with Sky Sports reporting earlier this month that the talismanic figure has told Spurs that he wants out of the club this summer.
Phillips is adamant that the time has come for Kane to leave, regardless of the Pochettino links.
“I’m surprised,” he told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs. “But the obvious one is will he be able to persuade Harry Kane to stay at the football club? For me, no.

“I think, personally, that Kane’s mind is made up and he wants to leave. I can’t see Pochettino persuading him to stay because time’s getting on. Pochettino never won anything in the five or six seasons he was there, what’s there to suggest he’s going to win anything next season? I don’t think Tottenham will, so I don’t see it happening.
“Is it a sensible move for them to go and get him? He’s well-loved there. From a chairman’s point of view, to get the fans back on side that’s quite an obvious one, but I’d be interested to hear what the supporters would think about it and see a poll or something.
“I can see it, I’m just not getting carried away with it. He did exceptionally well there, but he didn’t win any trophies so that is just critical for Tottenham now, if he was to go back.”
Kane was the Premier League’s top goalscorer last season with 23 goals and he has hit 221 goals in all competitions for Spurs since his debut in 2011.
However, he has not won a major trophy at the club, narrowly missing out on silverware in a number of competitions such as the Champions League, where they lost 2-0 in the final to Liverpool under Pochettino in 2019.
