Kevin Phillips insisted Stuart Dallas is a special talent – and he will be thrilled to be back playing for Leeds United in a more attacking role.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted that the Whites are benefitting from Dallas being deployed higher up the pitch.
Dallas’ natural position is as a winger or attacking midfielder but he has been deployed by Marcelo Bielsa mainly as a full-back, holding midfielder or wing-back during the past few seasons.
Dallas is a vital part of Bielsa’s squad with the 29-year-old yet to miss a minute of Premier League action this season.
In recent weeks he has returned to his more natural position and Phillips believes that Leeds are reaping the rewards from this latest Bielsa change.
“He’s a great player to have in your squad, he’s so versatile he can play anywhere”, Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“But when you put a player back in their right position, it sparks something. I know that as a player.
“Once you’re back in your right position you’re more comfortable. You forget about the pressures of wondering if you should be here or there.
“You naturally know where to go and how to play that position. Coupled with some quality, which Dallas has got, and his energy then he’s got the makings of something good.
“Dallas has done that over the years, he looks like he’s buzzing to be playing in that position and Leeds are obviously benefitting from that at the moment.”
Once again Dallas played the full game against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon as the Whites lost 4-2 at The Emirates.
Leeds are next in action on Friday night as they welcome a Wolves side who picked up their first away league win since November at the weekend.
