Phillips shares intriguing prediction for next season amid 'brutal' confirmed Leeds news

Teams will fear Leeds United next season and they could easily win three of their first six Premier League matches.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalscorer Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Leeds discovered their 2021-22 Premier League fixtures.

As confirmed via Leeds’ official website on 16th June, Marcelo Bielsa’s will face Man United, Everton, Burnley, Liverpool, Newcastle United and West Ham in their opening half-dozen matches.

Newly-promoted Leeds surpassed all expectations when they finished 9th and amassed 59 points last season.

And Phillips expects them to make a flying start to the 2021-22 campaign despite being pitted against tough opposition.

He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “Wow, that is pretty brutal.

But I think they’ve shown this season that it shouldn’t be about them. I think it should be the opposite way around now.

“It will be the other teams thinking: ‘Blimey, we’ve got Leeds’. The second season is always a lot more difficult. You’ve only got to look at Sheffield United to see that.

“There’s no way they’ll do a Sheffield United but it just shows you how much more difficult it can be. Teams will do their homework and stop the key players.

“So they’ve got to find a way to overcome that. But at the end of the day, Leeds won’t fear anyone. There’s no fear among those players and they’ll have the noise of the crowd behind them.

“They’ll want to get points on the board early but I don’t see them getting off to a poor start. I think they’ll be firing on all cylinders.

“It definitely wouldn’t surprise me if they got three wins from those games.”

In other news, Leeds United chief Andrea Radrizzani could be set to land bargain deal as Italy-based negotiations begin.
