Phillips tells Rangers fans to ‘get excited’ as club backed to make three ‘quality’ signings
Kevin Phillips has tipped Rangers to make three quality signings to boost their squad ahead of next season.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the Gers must strengthen to hold off a Celtic challenge next year.
In a recent press conference, Gerrard admitted “you can’t stand still” in terms of recruitment at a football club.
The Gers have already confirmed the free signing of Fashion Sakala from KV Oostende.
Phillips claims Rangers fans should be excited about the potential incomings at the club this summer after Gerrard’s recent comments.
“You can’t rest on your laurels now,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“You want to go and win that second title and get Rangers back to where they were a few years ago.
“They can’t fall behind because Celtic will be stronger next year, he has to say that. But he will say that because he’s already shown how professional he is.
“How focused he is in getting the best out of what he’s got. I’ve said all along, the recruitment in a football club is massive. It can make it break you.
“They will recruit this summer. I think they can get two, maybe three quality players, and that squad is going to be strong again next year.
“It’s another reason for the fans to get excited.”
Rangers’ next taste of competitive football will be in the Champions League qualifying rounds.
This gives Gerrard two months to make additions to his squad as he looks to lead his side to the group stage.
