Phillips tips Cresswell for last-gasp Leeds exit after confirmed news

Kevin Phillips is tipping Charlie Cresswell to leave Leeds United on loan in the final days of the window after signing a new deal.

The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest out of Thorp Arch.

On 25 August, Leeds announced Cresswell has signed a new contract, keeping him at Elland Road until 2025.

Cresswell, 19, starred at centre half as Leeds Under 23s won their Premier League 2 division last season.

He aslo featured on the bench as Leeds drew with Everton last weekend.

However, while Phillips admits a first-team bow isn’t out of the question for Cresswell, he’s tipped the defender to go out on loan.

This is mainly due to the Whites having plenty of depth at centre half.

“Signing a new deal, it’s brilliant,” Phillips told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“He’s obviously happy at the club and the club have rewarded him.

“They clearly see the potential there. We know what Bielsa is like, all of a sudden he could be given an opportunity this season.

“Leeds do have a lot of cover in that area, maybe we could see him go out on loan now he’s signed that deal.

“He will want to play football, be needs to play really. But it’s great that he’s happy to sign and the club have rewarded him.”
