Piers Morgan delivers verdict on Arsenal’s summer transfers

By Dominic Toner

Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has been left “underwhelmed” by the club’s signings this summer.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal are working on deals to sign striker Lucas Perez and defender Shkodran Mustafi.

BBC Sport correspondent David Ornstein claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Gunners have beaten Everton to the signing of Deportivo La Coruna’s Perez after triggering his £17.1million release clause.

He also stated that Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal to sign Valencia centre-back Mustafi in a deal that will cost over £35million.

Morgan, however, isn’t happy with the news and took to Twitter to show his disappointment over the club’s transfer business, pointing out the difference between the Gunners and Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho has remoulded the United side since being appointed manager this summer and has recruited a whole host of high profile names.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mhkitaryan and Paul Pogba have all joined Old Trafford this transfer window, the latter signing for a world-record fee of £89million from Juventus.

In comparison Arsenal have confirmed just three signings to date this summer with Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding and Takuma Asano all joining the Emirates.

Xhaka and Holding have been thrown straight into first-team football at Arsenal but both will face a tough challenge to cement a starting spot when the whole squad is available.

Arsenal have been linked with some of Europe’s big names recently, including Gonzalo Higuain and Alexandre Lacazette, but failed to land a truly marquee signing.

In other Arsenal transfer news, their defender is looking for a move abroad despite Premier League interest.
