World-renowned manager makes emphatic decision on Rangers playmaker interest - report
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has blocked a move by Rangers to sign talented playmaker Scott McTominay on loan, according to a report.
The Daily Mirror claim that the world-renowned Old Trafford boss has emphatically decided that McTominay will remain at Old Trafford in the New Year despite attracting interest from Rangers and a host of English Championship sides.
The 22-year-old has found himself involved in United’s matchday squad regularly this season and has made eight appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils this term.
Rangers currently find themselves in fourth place in the Scottish Premiership ahead of playing Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon.
A win at Pittodrie for the Gers would see them leapfrog Derek McInnes’ side into second – seven points off leaders Celtic.
The Ibrox side are looking for a new manager after sacking Pedro Caixinha on 26 October with Under-20’s coach Graeme Murty taking control of the first-team on a short-term basis.

Midfielder McTominay looks to have a bright future ahead of him at Old Trafford but it’s difficult to see where he would fit in at Ibrox – even on a short-term basis. The Gers currently have Aaron Nemane on loan from United’s rivals Manchester City with the winger barely featuring so far. With a new manager expected imminently, he’ll almost certainly have his own transfer targets – which only makes a loan move by Rangers for McTominay all the more unlikely whether Mourinho is willing to loan him out or not. There are also serious question about whether or not the Gers could afford to sign any new players in January after Caixinha overhauled the squad in the summer.
