Danny Mills fears Aston Villa will lose midfield schemer John McGinn this summer if they don’t win promotion.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England international believes the central midfielder’s future, like that of playmaker Jack Grealish, could come down to the outcome of the play-off final against Derby County on Monday week.
McGinn has had an outstanding season for Villa since signing from Hibernian last summer for a fee of around £3million.
“If Villa don’t get promotion, they could lose McGinn,” Mills said. “There has been a lot of talk about him, Premier League teams are sniffing around him, and that’s because he’s played very well and surprised a few people.
“It depends on what happens in the play-off final. If Villa don’t get to the Premier League, clubs will go, ‘tell you what, we will have a dabble at him.”
McGinn has been a mainstay of the Villa side this season, making 42 starts among 43 appearances and producing a series of class displays from central midfield.
The left-footed has been the first choice in that position, scoring eight goals and supplying 12 assists.
He has a contract at the Midlands giants that runs until the summer of 2022.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that the club are plotting a swoop to sign a Rangers 27-year-old.
