Pochettino delivers Tottenham transfer update after defeat to Man City, fans will be delighted
By Harry Sykes
Mauricio Pochettino has reassured Tottenham fans that the club are working feverishly behind the scenes on signing multiple new players before the close of the window in just over a month.
Spurs have yet to complete a signing this summer, whereas title rivals Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have spent a combined £570 million on new players.
Manager Pochettino admitted in the wake of his team’s 3-0 pre-season defeat to City in the United States city of Nashville on Saturday night that Tottenham are “a little bit behind” Pep Guardiola’s side in terms of strengthening their squad.
But the Argentine insisted that is about to change as the Londoners work on bringing in new talent.
“Of course, they have more senior players than us and they invest more money than us,” Pochettino said, as quoted by Football.London. “You can see that for us we have a lot of young players on the bench. It’s true that it’s completely different today the squads.
“But we are busy, the squad and maybe today they have a bit of an advantage and are ahead of us because they signed players and keep players they want.
“For us we are a little bit behind, working hard in trying to finish and sign some players to try to help us bring some new energy and make our team more competitive.”
Spurs finished above City last season as they amassed their highest points tally of the Premier League era.
The Londoners had a storming end to the campaign to finish second on 86 points, while Guardiola’s team, who were the pre-season title favourites, ended third on 78 points.
City have spent more than £200million on new players already this summer, which included the £50million purchase of Kyle Walker from Spurs.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs are firmly in the driving seat to sign a creative spark for a bargain price and Pochettino wants the deal done.
