Mauricio Pochettino has made a huge error in naming Erik Lamela to start over Heung-min Son against Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday evening.
Lamela, 26, has really not been in great form for the North London giants and the decision to start the Argentinean will surely come back to haunt Pochettino when he is unable to make an impact against Pep Guardiola’s men.
Spurs announced on their official Twitter account ahead of kick-off that Lamela will be part of the attacking midfield and not Son, who has been in great form over the last few months when playing either up front in Harry Kane’s absence, or out wide.

Lamela on the other hand has not been doing anywhere near enough and does not cause opposition sides enough problems when he is on the ball with his predictable movement and poor final ball.
Even Lucas Moura would have been a better option, because at least the Brazilian would be a bit of an unknown quantity for Man City having not made a single Premier League start yet.
Fabian Delph is starting at left-back for Man City, so maybe Lamela could cause a natural midfielder some problems, but the ex-Roma attacker has been well off the boil lately and one cog not being in time with the others in attack could cause Pochettino some serious issues.
In other Tottenham news, negotiations have begun over this powerhouse forward wanted by Spurs.
