‘Poch should sign you back’ – Tottenham fans react to the club’s Twitter post about Defoe

By Amir Mir

Tottenham posted a Twitter post of Jermain Defoe talking about his White Hart Lane memories – and fans want him to make a return to the club.

Spurs are set to play their final match at their old stadium this Sunday when they take on Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

Defoe played for the club over two spells and is a firm favourite amongst the supporters as he currently plays for relegated Sunderland.

The 34-year-old has scored 15 Premier League goals during this campaign despite his club sitting bottom of the table and now heading for the Championship.

A number of supporters asked Defoe whether he can come back and play for the club again with his future at the Stadium of Light set to be up in the air in the summer.

Furthermore, others would like to see him at the Lane when Mauricio Pochettino’s side play their final match at their old home.

One supporter stated that Pochettino should sign you back when referring to Defoe as the White Hart Lane faithful were clearly pleased to hear from their former player.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

During his time at Tottenham, Defoe played 358 matches for the club, scoring 139 goals added with supplying 31 assists.

The England international has played for four English clubs during his career and is likely to stay in the Premier League after Sunderland’s relegation.

He has scored 37 goals in 91 matches for the north east club, who have been fighting for relegation throughout those encounters.
