Pochettino responds to reported Tottenham Alderweireld blow
By Harvey Byrne
Manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that reports claiming talks with Toby Alderweireld over a new contract have hit a stalemate is “another rumour in the media.”
This understandably caused some concern among the support of the north London club, who have already seen one of their stars Kyle Walker leave for Manchester City alongside Danny Rose speaking out about the club’s wage bills.
However, Pochettino looked to assure fans in his Friday press conference, stating that it was just a rumour made up by the media and letting supporters know that Alderweireld still has three years remaining on his contract at the club.
“Toby is like other players,” told Pochettino on Friday, as quoted by Football.London.

“They have contracts. They signed their contracts and they were so happy when they signed their contracts. He still has a three-year contract. I explain the situation but it’s another rumour in the media.”
Alderweireld completed a move to Tottenham in the summer of 2015 for a fee of just £11.5million from Atletico Madrid after previously impressing on loan at Southampton.
He has since played in 89 appearances in total for the club and is regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League alongside centre-back partner Jan Vertonghen.
Tottenham fans will certainly be eager to see him lining up in their side for years to come and they will have been delighted by Pochettino’s words.
