Pochettino makes heartfelt prediction for Tottenham v Man United, Spurs fans will love this
By Matt Bullin
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he might cry on Sunday as his side play their final ever game at White Hart Lane.
Spurs take on Man United on Sunday afternoon knowing that not only will it be their last ever game at the Lane, but also that their title hopes are finally over.
Chelsea wrapped up the league on Friday night with a 1-0 victory at the Hawthorns thanks to Michy Batshuayi’s late strike.
Pochettino’s side are now 10 points adrift of the league leaders, with just three games left to play.
Next season Spurs will play their home games at Wembley before moving into a new 61,000-seater stadium for the 2018/19 campaign.
Speaking in the Sun, Pochettino has revealed it may be difficult to keep his emotions in check on Sunday.
“I am a very sensitive person and so emotional it will be difficult not to cry,” he said.
He went on to comment on the history of White Hart Lane: “You can see the history, smell the history. It’s so difficult to describe.
“For me the most important thing to know is that the heart of White Hart Lane, the smell, will always be there.
“I think for the fans it means a lot but in the same way – I don’t want to be wrong – I think our fans are so excited to welcome the new stadium, too.”
Pochettino has only been in charge of Tottenham for three years, but this shows how much the club means to him – and Spurs fans will love the emotion.
The Lane has been home to Tottenham for 118 years, and has played host to well over 2,500 matches.
Tottenham currently sit second in the Premier League and need a draw on Sunday to all but confirm the position come the end of the season, having already secured Champions League football for next season.
