Pochettino reveals surprise verdict after 'unbelievable' thrashing v Manchester City

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has delivered the surprise verdict that his side can take away some positives after their 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side were firmly in control against their north London counterparts at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, with a late Raheem Sterling brace putting the gloss on a dominating performance from the league leaders.

Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring for the home side with a well taken header after just 15 minutes, before goals in the 70th, 80th and 90th minutes from Kevin De Bruyne and Sterling secured the victory, their 16th win in a row, while Christian Eriksen scored a consolation strike in injury time.

Speaking after the game, in which Tottenham were dominated by City throughout, Pochettino shockingly revealed that he had positives to take away from the game, and says that the experience of playing against a side like the league leaders will only help in the future.

He told the London Evening Standard: “You can take some positives from the unbelievable experience for the team.

“To play for the Premier League we need to improve, we need to learn, to work harder than before and of course we play again today a team that has a lot of quality.

“Today was a very good example to see a team that believe, has quality, has strength and is in very good form. There is nothing to say, they deserve the victory – completely.”

The result, which opens up a 14-point gap at the top of the table ahead of second placed Manchester United’s clash against West Brom on Sunday, has seen Tottenham slip down the table into seventh, leapfrogged by Burnley, who drew against Brighton, and north London rivals Arsenal, who beat Newcastle United.
