Pochettino set to reignite Tottenham bid for Premier League attacker - report

By Dominic Toner

Tottenham are interested in signing Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Wilfried Zaha, according to a report.

The Mail claim that Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is preparing a bid for the 24-year-old as he would like to add some more pace and creativity to his squad.

Spurs had a £12million bid rejected in the summer transfer window for Zaha and Palace chairman Steve Parish labelled it “ridiculous” at the time.

Palace have recently appointed Sam Allardyce as their manager after sacking Alan Pardew, with the club sitting 17th in the Premier League table.

The Mail report that Pochettino is preparing to test the new Palace regime by trying to sign their star player.

Zaha has been one of the club’s few positives this season and has put together a string of good performances, scoring three goals and supplying eight assists in 18 appearances.

The winger has often been criticised for inconsistency during his Palace career and is now emerging as a key player as his form stays at a high level.

He has proved to be a nightmare for Premier League defenders with his skill and has racked up 239 appearance for Palace, scoring 30 goals and supplying 47 assists.

Spurs are currently outside of the top four and face a tough battle to finish in a Champions League spot, but Pochettino is hopefully that Zaha can give them some an extra firepower.

Football Insider verdict:

Tottenham should capitalise on the situation at Crystal Palace and make a January bid for Wilfried Zaha. The wide man is now beginning to show some consistency in his performances and has the potential to be a great player. Spurs could certainly do with some extra creative midfielders in their squad and Zaha could give them an injection of pace. He has already made eight assists this season and Spurs striker Harry Kane could thrive off his service. Pochettino is a big admirer of Zaha and the Argentinian boss will need a big squad as they compete in both the Premier League and Europa League in 2017.

In other Tottenham transfer news, the club’s supporters have urged Pochettino to sign this available midfielder in January.
