Pochettino will only return to Tottenham on one condition as Phillips shares ‘massive’ verdict

Mauricio Pochettino will only return to Tottenham if he is promised a healthy transfer budget this summer.

That is according to 2000 European Golden Shoe winner Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the possibility of the 49-year-old succeeding Jose Mourinho in north London.

Tottenham have contacted Pochettino regarding a sensational return to the club just 18 months after his departure.

However, as revealed by Football Insider on 29th May, hopes that a deal can be agreed to lure the Argentinian away from Paris Saint-Germain are evaporating.

Neither Pochettino or PSG expect the move to happen, with the two having already held meetings to discuss summer transfer targets.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Pochettino’s future, Phillips said: “It would be massive if Pochettino returned but he would only come back if Levy has promised he funds to spend.

“He will not be coming back for the love of it. He is a serious football man and he wants to win trophies and win trophies with Tottenham.

“The next step for him and Spurs is to win trophies. He has already brought the club forward and developed players. He will want to add a trophy the cabinet.

“Pochettino will need money to spend if he is going to bring success.

“Of course, if Harry Kane leaves it would leave a massive void in their football club. They would have to address it immediately and it would not be cheap.”
