Rangers signed Portuguese winger Dalcio from Benfica on a season-long loan expecting big things from the 21-year-old – but he has proven to be a complete waste of time having at Ibrox and must go down as one of the Gers’ worst signings in recent memory.
After being given the number seven shirt in the summer, Dalcio, 21, started the European humiliation to Progres Niederkorn before quickly vanishing and barely being seen again.
Things have got to the point where the Portuguese is so rarely sighted by Rangers fans his name has been prefixed with ‘The’ as though he was some sort of mythical creature.
While ‘The Dalcio’s’ signing almost certainly falls at the feet of now-usurped manager Pedro Caixinha, it should serve as a warning to the Gers hierarchy when it comes to bringing players in this summer.
Director of football Mark Allen needs to make sure every player recruited is thoroughly scouted and assessed by the Light Blues staff.
Dalcio – like another loanee Aaron Nemane – will almost certainly leave the club to little fanfare in the summer after his failed loan move and likely never be heard from again.
Hopefully the Gers don’t make such a similar mistake next summer and make a mess of their recruitment quite so badly.
