Postecoglou sack: Levy to make Tottenham move ‘quickly’ – ‘I feel sorry for him’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Tottenham must make a decision on Ange Postecoglou’s future “pretty quickly” as transfer planning for the summer gets underway.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested Spurs chairman Daniel Levy won’t want to change managers if he can avoid it.

Postecoglou is under increasing pressure at Tottenham with the club sitting 15th in the table after a 3-2 loss against Everton last week (18 January).

Sources have told Football Insider (20 January) that Spurs have no plans to sack the Australian despite the club’s awful recent form.

He is set to get the chance to transform the club’s fortunes in winnable fixtures against Hoffenheim and Leicester this week.

Levy will be reluctant to change managers at Tottenham, says Wyness

Wyness claimed Postecoglou will have to tweak his gung-ho tactics if he is to remain in the dugout.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “He is in the hot seat.

“There are mitigating circumstances with the injuries. I watched them play Everton, and certainly his reaction after the game was one of someone under real pressure.

“I felt sorry for him, and I’m sure he wishes he could rewind some of his comments to the media. He’s bigger than that, and can be better than that.

“There’s no doubt that playing a high line without his best defenders is dangerous, and I do agree with some of the critics that he should have changed things.

“I think Levy won’t want to change, if he can avoid it. He’ll realise there is a long-term project.

“He has to decide now pretty quickly. They’ll have to back Ange in the summer and try and get it right.

“Levy has got to get things sorted out pretty soon, while Ange may have to tweak his tactics.”
