‘Pray for Man United’ – Liverpool fans wowed by star’s ‘top notch’ international display

Liverpool fans have been left in a state of shock after one of their previously struggling players put on a show for their national team prior to their upcoming game against Man United.

Liverpool were in real need of a convincing performance and a win against Chelsea last time out before the international break, but they produced neither on a dismal afternoon for the club in West London.

Estevao scored an added-time winner to send Stamford Bridge into raptures and seal a 2-1 win for the Blues after Cody Gakpo had cancelled out Moises Caicedo’s strike, and the Reds are now on a three-game losing streak for the first time in two years.

This break has come at a perfect time, then, for their players to recover some kind of form ahead of a gruelling winter schedule, but not everything has gone to plan with Alexander Isak struggling for Sweden and Ryan Gravenberch having to pull out of the Netherlands squad through injury.

One key Liverpool star has been able to rediscover their previous best while away with their country, though, which will provide a huge boost to Arne Slot‘s side as they prepare to face old rivals Man United this coming weekend.

Liverpool fans react as Alexis Mac Allister nets a brace for Argentina

Alexis Mac Allister joined up with his Argentina teammates for friendlies against Venezuela and Puerto Rico over the last week, and he shone against the former with a brace to help his country to a 6-0 win.

The 26-year-old’s first goal saw him head home Nico Gonzalez’s half-volley for Argentina’s opener, while his second was a cool first-time finish to make it 3-0 after Jose Lopez had set the ball back for him inside the penalty area.

Mac Allister struggled last time out against Chelsea as he looked tired and lethargic against their energetic midfield, but Reds fans will be hoping that he is now revitalised after enjoying his time away with his country.

One supporter took to X to react to his performance by saying: “People don’t understand how this man is so important to us.. whether he scores or not. his line breaking passing quality is top notch,” while another simply said: “Pray for Manchester United.”

Another added: “He is so back,” while one insisted that other teams should be scared, saying: “Mac Allister finding his form again just in time for Liverpool and the remainder of the season. It’s actually so over for everyone.”

One fan alluded to their next game, reacting with: “Perfect timing to be back in form,” while another could not understand why certain players have impressed with their national teams, as they said: “Liverpool players on fire in internationals. Head scratching.”

Arne Slot to be concerned ahead of Man United clash for one specific reason

Mac Allister may have found form with Argentina, but there are no guarantees that he will continue firing for Liverpool when he returns to the fold this weekend.

The Reds are unbeaten in their last six Premier League outings against rivals United, and they currently sit eight places and five points ahead of Ruben Amorim’s side before the two sides face off.

It is not all going to be plain sailing for Liverpool, though, with Michael Oliver appointed to oversee their game against Man United this weekend, which is sure to anger their Dutch boss.

The experienced official handled Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park in February, and Slot wasn’t happy with James Tarkowski’s late equaliser as he felt Oliver should have awarded a free-kick to his side in the build-up to the goal.

Slot will be concerned that another potentially contentious decision could go against his side in a big game, but he will initially want his side to win convincingly so they cannot be set back by a refereeing call.
