Premier League fans all say the same about Pep Guardiola amid Marc Guehi to Man City bombshell
Pep Guardiola has felt the wrath of supporters up and down the Premier League after news that Man City are after Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
Guehi was close to joining Liverpool over the summer before a move fell through due to the Eagles’ failure to find a suitable replacement ahead of the transfer deadline.
While the Reds remain favourites for the England international’s signature, according to BBC journalist Sami Mokbel, City are the latest team to join the queue, though no final decision has been made yet.
Rodri has only just returned to the Man City lineup, with the likes of John Stones and Mateo Kovacic still missing due to injury, and they have been joined by Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol.
With multiple players also away at AFCON, Guardiola is facing an injury crisis at the Etihad Stadium, and while he refused to comment on transfer plans, Guehi is clearly on the radar this month.
Pep Guardiola accused of being a ‘chequebook manager’ at Man City
Man City are also working on a deal for Antoine Semenyo, and the 10-time Premier League winners are being accused of attempting to buy the Premier League title as Arsenal extend their lead.
Fans from up and down the country have labelled Guardiola as a “chequebook manager,” having spent hundreds of millions in just the last couple of transfer windows, but that will not stop the Catalan.
One Liverpool supporter claimed that “Pep can’t do anything without money,” though the irony has not been lost on many there, with Arne Slot struggling for form after a summer of serious spending.
- @UpTheGun86: “Best manager in the world only needs another 250m.”
- @Gunners4Lifee: “The chequebook manager is doing it again for the nth time!!”
- @Liverpool_Extra: “Pep can’t do anything without money.”
What has Marc Guehi said about his future?
It has become clear that Guehi has no intention of signing a new contract, meaning that his current deal at Selhurst Park expires at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
Speaking on his future previously, the centre-back said: “I know that God has a plan for me, and whatever that plan will be, it will come into fruition at some point.”
Palace supporters, of course, are in bits at the idea of their star defender departing, but with Oliver Glasner also being linked with Man United, the Eagles could lose more than one major figure.
However, if Man City want any chance of catching up to the league leaders, strengthening the backline is a must over the next four weeks, given the latest injury blows at the Etihad.
While it is not yet known how serious Dias and Gvardiol’s issues are, Guardiola has done nothing to sugarcoat the seriousness of them, suggesting both could be sidelined for quite some time.
