Fourth Premier League giant emerges in race to sign ‘unsettled’ Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers

Aston Villa successfully retained Morgan Rogers in the summer transfer window, despite high-profile interest in the 23-year-old.

After failing to land a Champions League spot last term, Villa sold Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United to bolster their PSR status.

The Villa Park outfit made just five summer additions, acquiring goalkeeper Marco Bizot, forward Evann Guessand, former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof, and attacking duo Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Brentford, adding to the wounds of their poor start to the Premier League term.

Premier League ‘big six’ side joined Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal in Morgan Rogers pursuit

Amid his poor start to the Premier League season, Rogers took to social media to hit back at his critics.

The attacking midfielder performed well last term, notching 14 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.

However, Rogers has started the new season poorly, failing to produce a single goal contribution in five matches.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph revealed on Wednesday, 18 September that another, unnamed club from the Premier League’s ‘big six’ were eyeing a move for the former Middlesbrough man alongside Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham.

The report adds that the transfer interest in Rogers from the mystery team as well as the named trio could have unsettled him.

Aston Villa desperately need Morgan Rogers to return to his best

Rogers has struggled this term

Meanwhile, Unai Emery‘s men are the only side in England’s top four divisions who are yet to score a league goal this term, despite clinching a Europa League spot just last campaign.

Villa’s next Premier League encounter sees them travel to Sunderland on Sunday, 21 September, providing them with an opportunity to beat one of this season’s newly promoted outfits.

However, the Black Cats have won both of their home games in the top flight, and could prove to be a tough opponent for Emery’s side.

Emery desperately needs Rogers to return to his best as Villa strive to turn their woeful form around.

Meanwhile, the West Midlands club’s poor performances in the Premier League suggest that they could struggle in the Europa League against Bologna on Thursday, 25 September.
