Premier League make announcement about Man United controversy vs Burnley
The Premier League have revealed why Man United’s equaliser against Burnley was ruled out after goalscorer Lisandro Martinez was deemed to have impeded Kyle Walker.
Man United’s post-Ruben Amorim era began with a trip to Turf Moor to face a relegation threatened Burnley side on a run of 11 games without a win.
Darren Fletcher is United’s interim boss as it stands, after stepping up from the Under-18s, and he saw his side go behind early on against the Clarets as Ayden Heaven diverted a cross into his own net in the 17th minute.
The Red Devils thought they had levelled through Martinez just before the half-hour mark, but his strike was quickly ruled out by referee Stuart Attwell for a foul on former Man City man Walker.
Benjamin Sesko did score an equaliser for United just after the break, and netted his brace on the hour mark, but they were held to a 2-2 draw after Jaidon Anthony’s superb strike.

Premier League states that Martinez committed a ‘clear foul’ on Walker in build-up to the goal
Martinez thought he had levelled the scores in the 28th minute after he had fired past Martin Dubravka following Casemiro’s nod down from a corner that was helped on by Sesko.
Referee Attwell immediately blew his whistle to rule it out after it had hit the back of the net, however, as the Argentine defender was adjudged to have wrestled Walker to the floor before scoring.
The Premier League Match Centre posted on X after the decision to reveal why the goal had not been allowed to stand, saying: The referee’s call of no goal to Manchester United was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed there was a clear foul from Martínez on Walker.
Sesko benefitted from Fletcher’s tactical tweak against Burnley
Sesko has endured a tough start to life at Old Trafford since his big-money summer move from RB Leipzig, but he doubled his Premier League goal tally at Turf Moor with two fine strikes.
The 22-year-old scored a brace of first-time finishes to fire United ahead, with Fletcher’s switch to a 4-2-3-1 clearly helping him massively.
Bruno Fernandes was able to take up a wider position for the first goal, which gave him the right angle to pick Sesko out as he ran towards goal, while Patrick Dorgu’s impressive wing work saw him cross well to find him in the box for 2-1.
United may not have taken all three points from the Turf Moor clash, but regardless of the result and who is their manager for the rest of this season, they should be hugely encouraged by Sesko’s performance in front of goal.
