Premier League make announcement after big incident in Man United vs Fulham

Man United are taking on Fulham on Sunday as Michael Carrick looks to continue his winning run since becoming caretaker manager.

So far, the former Middlesbrough boss has overseen wins against Man City and Arsenal, with the Red Devils in a good position to qualify for the Champions League.

This has put Carrick in pole position to stay at Old Trafford past this campaign, as he continues to impress.

Man United’s form continued against the Cottagers on Sunday, with Casemiro putting the Red Devils 1-0 up after 19 minutes.

However, they could have easily taken the lead earlier, with VAR advising the referee to overturn a penalty for Carrick’s side against Fulham.

Premier League confirm Jorge Cuenca’s foul vs Man United was outside the box

In the 15th minute, Man United thought they had won a penalty.

Fulham’s Jorge Cuenca brought down Mateus Cunha, with the foul being deemed to have been inside the Cottagers’ box.

However, after a VAR check, the penalty was chalked off, with a free-kick awarded instead.

Now, the Premier League has confirmed via X that this was due to the offence taking place outside of the box.

It mattered little for the Red Devils anyway, with Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick meeting the head of Casemiro to give the hosts the lead.

What did Steve Bruce say on Casemiro’s goal?

For Casemiro, it was a great header to put Man United in front against a tough opposition in Fulham.

The midfielder is set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the campaign, and will want to leave on a high note.

While a trophy is now unlikely, with the Red Devils out of both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, they could still qualify for the Champions League this season.

As a result, his header helped increase the chances of this happening, as he gave the hosts a solid early lead as Man United’s newfound momentum under Carrick continued.

Watching the game on BBC Radio 5 Live, former Man United star Steve Bruce was highly complimentary of the goal.

He said: “What an absolutely magnificent textbook header.

“Casemiro is up before anybody else. Thumped it back towards where it came from, right into the far corner.

“What a start for Man Utd.”

Now, the task for the Red Devils is to ensure they hold onto this lead to further push the side up the Premier League table.
