Premier League release statement after Vitor Pereira red card during Wolves vs Brighton
Vitor Pereira was shown a straight red card despite his team winning at home against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Wolves drew 1-1 with Tottenham last time out in the Premier League, earning their first point of the season.
Their hunt for a first win continued at home, with Fabian Hurzeler’s Brighton and Hove Albion coming to face Wolves.
Hurzeler was linked to Man United in the week, and the German will be looking to prove why as they take on Pereira’s struggling side.

Premier League gives reason for Vitor Pereira’s red card
Wolves took the lead through a Bart Verbruggen own goal after a fierce shot from Marshall Munetsi rebounded off the bar and off the Dutchman’s back into the goal.
Pereira was shown a straight red card by referee Jarred Gillett, and the Premier League have now revealed why.
Premier League match centre wrote on X, explaining: “The referee issued a red card to Vítor Pereira for irresponsible behaviour in the technical area.”
The red card came in the 20th minute, just before the hosts took the lead, and the Premier League’s bottom club will now be without Periera as he serves a touchline ban.
Jarred Gillett in the headlines again as Vitor Pereira’s emotions spill over
The red card was brandished by referee Jarred Gillett, who has now hit the headlines two weeks in a row for controversial decisions.
Gillett awarded Arsenal a penalty away at Newcastle United, which was then overturned by VAR, and the Australian has now sent Pereira off in peculiar circumstances.
There didn’t appear to be anything out of the ordinary about the behaviour of Pereira on the Wolves touchline before the Portuguese manager was shown red by the referee.
Wolves will hope to overcome the absence of Pereira on the touchline, and they could now be without Pereira for the next three Premier League matches.
