Premier League sack race: Eddie Howe odds slashed after overnight development

Thomas Frank continues to lead the way in the race for the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

Football Insider revealed last week that Tottenham are reviewing candidates to replace Frank, with the Dane’s departure likely in the coming months.

The Lilywhites are 14th in the Premier League and 12 points away from fourth and Champions League qualification.

There was clearly some fight left as Tottenham drew 2-2 with Man City on Sunday, however, with Frank‘s side coming from two goals behind.

And the Champions League has been a different story, with Tottenham beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 last week to book their place in the last 16.

Eddie Howe enters sack race after Newcastle United disappointment

Some fans of Newcastle United have begun to grow frustrated with Eddie Howe. The Magpies are without a win in their last four games across all competitions, and continue to be a soft touch away from home.

On Wednesday, Man City beat Newcastle 3-1 to secure their place in the Carabao Cup final and see off the holders by a 5-1 aggregate score line.

While some fans would have been happy with their team’s fight back in the second half, which probably should have seen them score two or three times, it was too little too late.

Howe had set up his team with a defensive five-back formation, but there was no solidity, and Newcastle were out of the tie after 32 minutes had been played.

With the Magpies 11th in the Premier League, and set for a play-off in the Champions League, frustrations have begun to mount against Howe.

One major bookmaker has slashed the 48-year-old’s odds of being the next Premier League boss to get the sack to 6/1, while Frank (5/4), Oliver Glasner (3/1), and Arne Slot (5/1) continue to lead the way.

Newcastle continue to falter away from home

For several years now, Newcastle have struggled away from St James’ Park, with no end in sight to what has continued to be a blight on Howe.

This season, the Magpies have won just two of their 12 away games in the Premier League, a number that has them sitting three points off the relegation zone if the table were calculated on away games only.

This is not something new for Howe. Despite finishing fifth last season, Newcastle won just eight of 19 away games, and the season before that, just six.

If Howe is to take his Newcastle team to the next level, it is something that must be addressed sooner rather than later.
