Premier League scouts ‘keeping tabs’ on Djeidi Gassama, Rangers stance revealed

Rangers are bracing for interest from a number of Premier League clubs in Djeidi Gassama ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old’s performances in the Scottish Premiership, particularly since Danny Rohl‘s arrival, have attracted interest from a number of high-profile clubs.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Gassama is performing at a higher level than the majority of his teammates as things stand.

Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on star players at both Rangers and Celtic, and weighing up how they feel they would cope with the step up.

If Gassama can continue with his recent run of form, there is a growing feeling Rangers could be set to receive formal offers for him when the summer window opens.

Premier League clubs plot moves to sign Djeidi Gassama

Football Insider revealed in January that Rangers turned down Monaco’s offer for Gassama which would have been an initial loan with a £10million obligation to buy.

However, any summer move would likely see the money offered up front, which could test the Ibrox club’s resolve although they remain hopeful of keeping him.

I watched Rangers against Hearts and wasn’t particularly impressed,” Brown told Football Insider.

“I think it does show the difference between Scottish football and the Premier League, it felt like it was very rushed, there wasn’t much composure in the game.

“Players were giving the ball away all over the place, it just didn’t look like there was much quality.

“So when a player like Gassama stands out at that level, it’s something Premier League clubs will always take notice of in case he’s ready for the step up.

“I know a lot of clubs in the Premier League keep a close eye on what’s happening in Scotland in case any player stands out as a potential option.

“Gassama was impressive, actually, against Hearts. He showed the talent he has and eventually was decisive in Rangers winning the game.

“So I’m sure they’ll be watching him to see if he can do it every week and whether he can make a real difference with Rangers fighting for the title.”

Rangers’ updated stance on selling Gassama revealed

Despite growing interest in Gassama’s situation, Rangers were determined not to lose the winger mid-way through the season, and turned down Monaco’s offer.

However, there have been suggestions that stance may change come the end of the season when they will have more time to land a replacement.

Football Insider revealed on 10 February that Rangers could sell Gassama in the summer if they fail to qualify for Champions League football.

Rangers can secure a place in next season’s Champions League by beating Hearts and Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title in a close-fought race.

Sources say the financial boost provided by qualification would allow them to snub interest in their best players, but they will otherwise find it difficult to do so.
