Manager details update on playmaker situation after Rangers reported bid
Hamilton manager Martin Canning has revealed no one it yet to match his side’s valuation in Rangers’ pursuit of 21-year-old midfielder Greg Docherty.
The Daily Record reports that the Gers made a bid for the Scotland Under-21 international which was thrown out by Hamilton but are expected to follow-up with an increased offer.
Docherty has been a key player for Hamilton this season and was missing from the side which lost 2-0 to Motherwell in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.
Canning confirmed Hamilton had yet to receive a bid which met their valuation of playmaker Docherty with the transfer window closing in a little over a week.
“Nothing has changed and Greg is still a Hamilton player,” Canning said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“He’s a very mature young boy. He knows he needs to keep his head down and work hard.
“That’s the reason people are talking about him, because he is mature and he does his job properly and I don’t expect that to change.
“Greg’s kept informed by the club but at the moment, as far as I know, the value the club placed on him hasn’t been met.”
Rangers have already made four new signings so far this month with Jamie Murphy, Sean Goss, Jason Cummings and Russell Martin all arriving on loan until the end of the season.
The Glasgow giants are currently third in the Scottish Premiership but could overtake Aberdeen when the two sides meet at Ibrox on Wednesday.
Docherty has scored three times and contributed six assists in 26 appearances for Hamilton so far this season as Martin Canning’s side look to avoid getting dragged into a relegation battle.
Despite only being 21, Docherty has made over 100 appearances for Hamilton since making his debut in 2013.
The midfielder is under contract at New Douglas Park until the summer of 2020.
