Prolific 24-year-old striker wants Mourinho reunion at Manchester United

By North-west correspondent Alex Stevens

Mattia Destro has revealed he is open to the possibility of a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

The Bologna striker, 24, is rated in the £12million bracket after scoring 49 goals in 145 Serie A appearances.

Italy international Destro, who has also played for Roma and AC Milan, was coming through the ranks at Inter Milan when Mourinho was in charge at San Siro.

Destro said: “To be able to train with champions and with a coach like Mourinho made me mature and prepared me to make a giant step into real football.

“If he called me to Man United? I’d like to see myself in that situation.”

Destro, who has won eight caps for the Italy national team after making his debut against England in 2012, has netted eight goals in Serie A this season for struggling Bologna.

As revealed by Football Insider last month, Mourinho is understood to have signed a pre-contract agreement with United that is set to make him the highest paid manager in the world.

In other Manchester United news, Marouane Fellaini suffered the indignity of the home supporters cheering when he was substituted at Old Trafford against West Ham on Sunday.
