Pundit 'amazed' by update on Salah contract talks at Liverpool

Alan Hutton is “amazed” Liverpool are still yet to tie Mohamed Salah down to a new contract after an update on talks.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 29-year-old deserves a reward for his form at Anfield.

As quoted by GQ on Monday (11 January), Salah revealed the club “know what I want” in terms of a new contract and insisted he is “not asking for crazy stuff”.

He went on to say Liverpool have “been told the situation” and that his future is “in their hands”.

An Anfield source told Football Insider last month (11 December) that the Reds are hopeful of agreeing terms after “tricky” negotiations.

As detailed by this site back in October, Salah wants a £500,000-a-week, four-and-a-half-year deal.

Hutton admitted he was shocked Liverpool have not met his demands yet.

“I’m amazed about it, to be quite honest with you,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“He’s a standout player, one of the best players in the world and he’s still got a lot more to give.

“Every single week, he puts on a top-class performance so why wouldn’t you reward him for that?

“If he’s coming out and saying: ‘Look, it’s not me. I’m not asking for anything out of the ordinary. I’m just wanting what I’m valued at,’ I think that’s fair enough.

“He’s given his all to the club. So why would they not want to reward him?”

Salah’s current contract at Anfield is set to run until 2023.

He has scored 23 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions this season.
