Pundit baffled by Lucas Moura decision at Tottenham - 'I don't understand why'

Frank McAvennie “doesn’t understand” why Tottenham are not actively trying to sell Lucas Moura this summer.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-West Ham striker suggested the 29-year-old is planning to run down his contract and leave on a free next year.

Lucas has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The deal includes the option of a further year extension.

The Brazil international joined from Paris Saint-Germain in 2018 for a fee of around £25million.

As quoted by Football.London (28 July), Antonio Conte said Lucas is a “great resource” for the Spurs side due to his versatility.

The manager said he has been “happy” with the winger’s performances in training and pre-season.

McAvennie suggested that the Lilywhites should be looking to offload Lucas as he doesn’t fit Conte’s mould.

Lucas Moura is going to run down his contract,” he told Football Insider.

“If he’s not playing they’re not going to take up the option of the extra year. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t want to get him out the door.

He’s not done anything wrong. He came in and he’s done well. Sometimes the manager has a vision of how he wants to play and you don’t fit into that.

It’s not because you’re not a good player it’s just that you don’t fit in to any of the manager’s plans. Sometimes you just have to accept that and go.
