Pundit ‘buzzing’ for Newcastle United after ‘unbelievable’ Alexander Isak update

Alexander Isak’s imminent return to the Newcastle United first team is an “unbelievable” boost to the club’s top-four hopes.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after an update on the striker.

As per Luke Edwards (3 January), Isak, 23, is set to play a role in Newcastle’s FA Cup clash against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday (7 January).

The Sweden international hasn’t played since October after picking up an injury while on international duty.

Despite this, he has scored two goals in his three total appearances for Newcastle and McManus can’t wait to see how the Magpies look with their record signing back in the fold.

“I’m buzzing for him, that’s unbelievable news,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“I feel like all we have talked about for the last few months is when is he coming back? So to hear he could play this weekend is huge.

“I think if he comes on instead of Chris Wood in that Arsenal game then Newcastle get the win, he is that much of a difference maker.

“This is a high-quality player who cost a load of money and we have seen how well Newcastle’s other signings have done.

“Bringing him on against League One opposition is a good move, sensible. That gets him ready for a return to the Premier League and honestly, he could be the difference in the race for the top four.

“It’s seriously unbelievable news for the fans.”

Newcastle have failed to score in their last two Premier League games.

They remain third in the table.
