Pundit can't believe Howe's 'huge' Joelinton reveal at Newcastle

There is little chance Eddie Howe can turn Joelinton into a real powerhouse for Newcastle United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Joelinton had plenty of opportunities to prove himself under Steve Bruce.

As quoted by the Guardian ahead of his first game in charge, Howe claimed the club’s record signing can be “huge” for him.

Despite the new manager being absent from the game with Brentford due to a positive covid test, Joelinton thrived at St. James’ Park.

He netted his first goal of the season in the 3-3 draw and won 11 duels – the most duels of anybody on the pitch, according to sofascore.

Asked whether the 25-year-old can reach his potential under Howe, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t see why he should be a different player.

“Steve Bruce gave him loads of chances to prove himself.

“I don’t believe in that nonsense, he was given chances under Steve Bruce and he could not score.

“It was a good goal that he scored at the weekend but he’s got to keep doing it. Can he score two in two? Can he score three in three? That’s what you want to see given the money Newcastle paid for him.

“They definitely need more out of him.”

Joelinton moved to Newcastle United from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2019 for a fee of £40million.

He has scored 11 goals and contributed eight assists in 92 games across all competitions for the Magpies.
