Pundit can’t believe Antony latest as ‘incredible’ new details emerge from Man United

Kevin Campbell has questioned whether Antony can “make the difference” for Man United after signing for “a hell of a big fee”.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the winger “doesn’t have a great goalscoring record” after his time in the Eredivisie.

Man United confirmed they have reached an agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Antony, 22, on Tuesday (30 August) after a long-running saga.

According to Sky Sports (30 August), the Red Devils could pay a fee of £86million to the Dutch giants for the Brazil international’s services.

Erik ten Hag has already paid Ajax a reported £57million for the signing of Argentina international Lisandro Martinez – who has had a mixed start to life at Old Trafford.

Campbell suggested the Amsterdam-based club may have got the better of Man United with their “incredible” negotiating.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I’ll tell you what, Ajax can negotiate – can’t they?

“They’ve been incredible.

“Man United have got Martinez in for just under £60million – and now Antony has signed for £85-86million.

“That’s a lot of money. The manager knows him, yes, but he hasn’t really got a resume.

“There’s nothing to suggest he’s going to make the difference for United – goal-scoring wise.

“He doesn’t have that record, although he looks a good player.

“We’ll see – he might hit the ground running and be a superstar. But it’s a hell of a big fee for someone who doesn’t have a great goalscoring record.”
