Pundit can’t believe ‘detrimental’ Leeds United claim as new details emerge from Thorp Arch

Kevin Campbell has claimed Leeds United can “come out of the traps a lot better” than their rivals in the second half of the season due to their limited involvement at the World Cup.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted having a lot of players away at the showpiece tournament could be “detrimental” for other Premier League sides.

Leeds United have just three players involved at the World Cup (Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams, and Rasmus Kristensen) – the second-lowest total in the top flight.

Man City (16), Man United (14), and Chelsea (12) have the most players away with their respective nations.

Speaking on talkSPORT (16 November), ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy suggested teams like the Whites could be at a disadvantage when the Premier League returns.

He claimed it will be “very difficult” to find the right intensity during the mid-season break.

Leeds United, who are currently on a break from training at Thorp Arch, are 15th in the Premier League ahead of their return to action against Man City on 26 December.

Campbell told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Having a lot of players at the World Cup could end up being detrimental for these other sides.

“Especially for these players who aren’t going to get a lot of minutes.

“They’ll have to come back and get up to match speed again.

“Jesse Marsch having most of his players together, he will see that as a positive.

“They’ll be training hard and playing games, learning more about each other.

“I just think for the likes of Leeds, this will just allow them to come out the traps a lot better in the second half of the season.

“I like what this team are doing. It doesn’t work out all the time, but they’re good to watch.”
