Pundit can’t believe Jurgen Klopp could be sacked amid ‘lethargic and complacent’ Liverpool dig
Noel Whelan has insisted Jurgen Klopp’s job is “safe” at Liverpool but suggested “conversations will be had” if results don’t improve.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, instead blamed the “lethargic and complacent” displays turned in by the Reds players for their poor form in the early part of this season.
Liverpool bounced back from their 3-3 home draw against Brighton on Saturday (1 October) to beat Rangers 2-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday (4 October).
The Merseysiders sit ninth in the Premier League after winning just two of their opening seven games.
Klopp has previously dismissed questions about his potential sacking after Liverpool’s 4-1 defeat by Napoli in Europe last month.
As quoted by the Daily Mirror (8 September), the German insisted the “owners are rather calm and expect me to sort the situation”.
He is under contract until 2026 after signing a fresh extension in April.
Whelan insisted “certain players” aren’t doing their job correctly at Anfield.
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think conversations will be had, but his job is safe.
“I don’t think anyone will want to see Jurgen Klopp leave. He’s one of the greatest managers in the world.
“A lot of this lack of form comes down to the players. I don’t think Klopp lacks desire, we see him being brutally honest all the time.
“He’s always digging out certain players and asking for more from his players. I don’t think there’s any excuse for them when you see some of the names out on the field.

“There are certain players not doing their job properly. I know the manager gets the blame, but it’s down to the players.
“From the word go, desire and determination has always been there on Klopp’s side. But the players look very complacent and lethargic, even lazy, at the moment.”
