Pundit can't believe Man United chiefs after 'baffling' Sky update
Man United should not be targeting ageing players like Marko Arnautovic.
That’s according to former Aston Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ transfer business.
According to Sky Sports (8 August), Man United have seen a bid of around €9million (£7.6million) for Arnautovic rejected by Bologna.
Sky Sports then updated on Wednesday (10 August) and claimed the club have pulled out of the move.
Man United have failed to land their top transfer targets this summer, with Frenkie de Jong and Darwin Nunez resisting moves to Old Trafford.
McLeish has been left baffled by Man United’s transfer strategy.

“I was baffled when I heard that,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.
“I am not the only one. I said surely not. Why the decision-makers think they need Arnautovic, at 33 years of age, for Man United? Come on, what’s happening here?
“They were very aware of the negativity from fans and from people outside the club, pundits, Roy Keane, everybody had something to say about that.
“They obviously have cold feet over it. Quite rightly, I believe, they should not be going for players like him.
“He was a very good player on his day but he is not at his peak. To pay that kind of money as well, they are taking away potential money for a player who will make a real difference.”
Arnautovic scored 14 goals in 33 Serie A appearances during the 2021-22 season.
He also has 43 Premier League goals in 184 appearances for Stoke and West Ham.
