Pundit can’t believe Marcus Rashford quit update at Man United amid ‘£45m claim’ – ‘it’s big’
Noel Whelan has insisted Marcus Rashford should be given a new contract at Man United after finding his best form and his “fight” at the club under Erik ten Hag.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed it would be a “big risk” to let the 24-year-old leave as he is worth “£45million” in today’s market.
As per The Guardian (18 October), Ten Hag is yet to decide if stars like Marcus Rashford and David de Gea are deserving of new Man United contracts.
The Dutchman, as quoted in the report, insisted he and his players are “only thinking of performing” – adding that negotiations would “interfere” with results at Old Trafford.
Rashford and De Gea are among a number of senior Man United stars whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the season but can extend their deal by a further 12 months.
The England international has notched five goals and three assists in 12 appearances so far this season.
When asked if Rashford is one of the deadwood players at Man United, Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Not from the performances I’ve seen this season.
“I’ve seen a different attitude and character from Rashford this season. He’s playing with a smile on his face, more so than he has in the last two seasons.
“He’s getting back to his best. He looks sharp and more composed in front of goal.
“He looks like he’s got that fight back, and that will make it very hard for Man United to let him go for free.

“You’re talking about probably a £45million player. Can they afford to let him go?
“He’s coming into the best years of his career now. It’d be a big risk to let him walk away.”
