Pundit ‘can’t believe’ Newcastle United fan reaction after source’s Jorginho update

Newcastle United should sign Chelsea star Jorginho in January.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ January plans.

On Wednesday (28 December), sources told this site that Newcastle had ruled out signing Jorginho, 31, as he is too old for the new owners’ project.

The midfielder was offered to the Magpies with the player entering the final six months of his contract at Stamford Bridge and yet to agree an extension.

McManus thinks Newcastle would be making a mistake in not signing him.

“I think he would be a great signing for Newcastle,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“I’m a big fan of his. If they can get him for a small fee because of his contract expiring then it could be a cracking deal.

“This guy nearly won the Balon d’Or a few years ago, would Newcastle fans actually turn this guy down? He’s better than Shelvey and Longstaff, no disrespect to either of them but they would probably agree.

“He has the experience of winning trophies and we know that is on the agenda for Newcastle’s new owners.

“He could be like Kieran Trippier in that he is a leader who has been where most of these players haven’t. He’s won almost everything in the game.

“I can’t believe Newcastle fans would turn their noses up at him.”

The Magpies have now won six straight Premier League games after beating Leicester 3-0 on Boxing Day.

Newcastle are next in action against Leeds United on New Year’s Eve.
